MAKHACHKALA, June 8 – RIA Dagestan. At the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Acting Head of the Republic of Dagestan Fedor Shchukin announced that Makhachkala International Airport would receive a new 3.2-kilometer runway by the end of 2026.
According to Shchukin, the facility's readiness exceeded 95 percent, with only final preparatory work remaining. He explained that the construction of the new runway was driven by Dagestan's geographical location at the intersection of the North-South and East-West logistical routes.
Drawing attention to the region's geographical advantages, Shchukin stated that the growing flow of tourists and cargo in the republic fueled fast-paced development. He further confirmed that the existing runways were accommodating all aircraft types without difficulty and that no severe weather disruptions occurred.
